DONA ANA COUNTY, N.M. -- A La Mesa, New Mexico, couple has been charged with child abuse after their six-year-old daughter tested positive for cocaine and morphine, Dona Ana County Sheriff's officials said.

Albert E. Herrera, 36, was charged with a third-degree felony count of child abuse. He was being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center on unrelated charges at the time of his arrest, officials said.

Herrera's wife Katherine Herrera, also 36, was arrested Thursday morning. Acting on an anonymous tip, sheriff's deputies found her at a baseball park at 390 North Valley Drive about 9 a.m. Thursday. She was taken to the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $10,000.

An investigation by the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department and the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department led to the issuance of the warrants.
