SANTA ROSA, N.M. (AP) - An outdated medical center in eastern New Mexico will be replaced with a new hospital thanks to more than $9 million in federal funds.
Members of New Mexico's congressional delegation announced Wednesday that the funds, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, will be made available to build the Guadalupe County Hospital.
The facility will include a 10-bed acute care hospital and medical clinic.
Rep. Harry Teague, DN.M., said projects like this one are essential to providing quality health care to rural communities.
Guadalupe County Hospital will be the only emergency care facility between Albuquerque and Amarillo, Texas. The county is currently a federally designated health professional shortage area.
