SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico authorities are investigating the discovery of a man's body after it was recovered from the Red River in Taos County.
The Department of Public Safety identified the victim as Arthur Chavez.
Residents were cleaning debris near the rivers edge Friday when they removed a log which was lodged underneath a tree root line and discovered a body.
The State Police Criminal Investigations Bureau located identification on the recovered body that belonged to Chavez.
The agents also discovered tattoos that were described by Chavez's family after Chavez was reported missing.
The body was transported to the Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque for autopsy after a family member positively identified Chavez.
