Investigators try to ID remains from submerged car

Associated Press - June 23, 2009 2:05 PM ET

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The state Office of the Medical Investigator is trying to track down records that could help identify the remains of an adult and three children discovered in a car submerged in a central New Mexico lake.

The office's director of operations, Amy Boule, said Tuesday the OMI was searching for dental and other records to confirm the identities.

The state police dive team spotted the car last week about 15 feet under water near a boat ramp while searching for a pickup that accidentally went into Cochiti Lake.

The remains were discovered inside the car when it was pulled from the lake.

State police have said there is a "strong possibility" the remains are linked to the 2001 case of a man accused of abducting his three sons.
