Karla was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and moved to El Paso when she was only 3 years old. She was raised in El Paso and is a graduate of Eastwood High School.
Karla is also a graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. She furthered her education by getting her meteorology certification from Mississippi State University.
Karla has been at KVIA not once, but twice. She started working in KVIA’s administration department during her college years. A few years later she moved on to Los Angeles, where she worked at ABC network in affiliate relations. When she returned El Paso, she rejoined KVIA. She is now part of ABC-7’s StormTRACK Weather Team, and you can watch her on the weekends on ABC-7 at 5, 6 and 10, and on Mondays and Tuesdays on ABC-7 at 4.
Karla is also a part of KVIA’s management team. She is program director for KVIA’s four stations; KVIA-DT (ABC), KVIA-DT2 (CW), KVIA-DT3 (ABC-7 News Now) and KVIA-DT4 (Azteca America).
Karla has a wonderful family and awesome friends, whom she loves very much and with whom she enjoys spending quality time. She also has a Pomchi named Chubaka and a Terrier named Bunny, whom she loves dearly.
She is an avid runner. She has run the Rio Grande and Long Beach Marathons. Karla loves football, especially NFL. She is a big Oakland Raiders fan as her father grew up in the Bay Area, and she grew up watching the games with her dad.
Karla has also been a dancer since she was a young girl. She has danced in "The Nutcracker" with Ballet El Paso, and has danced jazz and hip-hop competitively and professionally.
Karla loves to travel and had the privilege of traveling around the world as a child and young adult. She hopes to revisit places like Greece, Italy, Spain, Japan and the Holy Land in the near future.
